Meet the Director
Welcome Students and Parents!
I look forward to working with you and your child for the foreseeable future. It’s important for me to continue the strong collaboration and partnership with you and our community; it's the reason that the West Springfield Orchestra program continues to grow each year.
I look forward to working with all of the groups to obtain a high level of musicianship that can only come from hard work and commitment to themselves and one another. As your music director, my job will be to provide you with the resources and tools to perform to one’s musical aspirations, for the student’s and the ensemble. Along the way, I hope to instill a love and curiosity of music that will last a lifetime. Music education is one of self discovery and I am certain that your child will benefit and thrive in our orchestra.
I attended Northern Va Community College and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, earning my Bachelor’s of Music Education. Immediately upon graduation, I began my teaching career in Hanover County (VA) just outside of Richmond and in 2007 I started teaching at Irving Middle School here is Fairfax County.
I am supported by own loving and musical family; husband Chris, karaoke extraordinaire, Ella, violinist and Eva, a budding cellist.
When I do have time, I enjoy playing my violin with local groups such as the Washington Sinfonietta and the Capital City Orchestra.
Ms. Jennifer Herrera
Orchestra Director
